Children at the 2008 Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District Summer Camp are learning first hand about farming from Sid Stutzman, owner of Stutzman farm in Sangerville. During the annual two week summer camp children learned about the natural resources and farming in this region and had a lot of fun! __________________________________________________________________ What's New The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District announces their annual conservation awards. Judy Chase Thompson of the Brownville High School is the 2008 Outstanding Conservation Education Teacher of the Year. Lester and Olive Buck of the Blueberry Ridge Farm are the 2008 Outstanding Cooperators of the Year, and will host the district's Annual Tour and Luncheon on Friday, August 15th at their farm. The next meeting of the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District's Board of Supervisors will be on Wednesday, September 10th. The public is invited to attend.

We have services available for landowners, contractors, waterfront property owners and road associations to assist in managing your land while minimizing the impact on natural resources. The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District will be offering a Project Learning Tree (PLT) Teacher Workshop on Friday, October 10th. PLT is an award winning, multi-disciplinary, international environmental education program for educators and students in grades preK-12. A program of the American Forest Foundation, it is one of the most widely used environmental education programs in the United States, operating in all fifty states. PLT continues to set the standard for environmental education excellence. Please contact us for more information. We are currently seeking individuals, families or civic groups that would like to help with the Demonstration Forest Community Development Project. Please contact us for more information.
