Job Title: Education Coordinator
Salary: $18/hour
Work hours: Part-time, 25 hours a week, flexible work schedule
Position Summary:
Support the goals of the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District, as directed by the Executive Director and the Board of Supervisors, by coordinating year-round education programs, workshops and projects and by serving as a liaison for the agency to the public and private sector. The Education Coordinator will provide natural resource education programs and services for landowners, schools, families, natural resource professionals and others within Piscataquis County. The Education Coordinator will also work with partnering organizations, individuals, schools and agencies as they plan, promote and develop PCSWCD programming. The Education Coordinator also carries out technical services, connecting residents to information on USDA cost-share programs, facilitating technical trainings, and serving as a resource hub for technical information.
The Educational Coordinator position requires flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends. This position includes work in-office, remotely and in field settings.
Responsibilities of the position are as follows:
- Work as a team with PCSWCD staff to plan and execute programs, services, workshops and projects. Supervision provided by the Executive Director.
- Work closely with a volunteer Board of Supervisors through participation in monthly Board meetings, and through telephone and email contact as delegated by the Executive Director.
- Provide support to the United States Department of Agriculture agencies by assisting clients and directing them to the services they are seeking.. The Education Coordinator must complete all AgLearn trainings on a timely basis.
- PCSWCD Program Implementation: PCSWCD Calendar of Events is produced collaboratively with the Executive Director. Plans for lead coordinators for each PCSWCD program, event, service, workshop or training are established at the completion of the Calendar of Events. From that point, the Education Coordinator will coordinate all aspects of PCSWCD education programs, services, workshops and projects assigned to them. PCSWCD program coordination is supervised by the Executive Director.
- PCSWCD School Programs: The Education Coordinator works with school districts in Piscataquis County to provide in-school education programs that connect students to natural resource conservation. The Education Coordinator works independently on programs delivered and also in partnership with organizations that are part of the PEEC Collaborative. These organizations include Appalachian Mountain Club, Rural Aspirations Project and the Natural Resource Education Center. The Education Coordinator creates opportunities for school groups to visit and utilize PCSWCD public lands.
- The Education Coordinator is to network with partnering agencies and organizations, municipalities, trade associations, schools, landowners and the public.
- The Education Coordinator and the Executive Director work together to fundraise for general operating support and special District programs and projects. The Education Coordinator will be involved in grant writing that is directly associated with funding PCSWCD educational programming. The Education Coordinator will assist with developing funding for educational programs and services by assisting with grant research, writing and administration.
- The Education Coordinator assists with producing newsletters, drafting press releases for effective media outreach and agency brochures to disseminate information to the public.
- Responsible for collecting and inputting all data relevant for required and requested agency reports. Monthly reports include the Education Coordinator Report. For any grant that is being overseen by the Education Coordinator, the Education Coordinator is responsible for producing and submitting required grant reports.
- The Education Coordinator is the lead staff person responsible for the Trout Sale, which is an annual fundraiser. Responsibilities for this sale include taking orders, checking customer permits, coordinating a pick-up date with the supplier, answering customer questions and assisting customers at the pick-up date. The Education Coordinator also assists with the Tree & Plant Sale fundraiser by helping to build the catalog, updating the website with ordering and producer information, customer service and packing orders.
- The Education Coordinator adds event content to PCSWCD’s website, www.piscataquisswcd.org.. The Education Coordinator works alongside the Executive Director to monitor the website for needed updates.
- Performs other duties as requested by the Executive Director and the Board of Supervisors.
Qualifications:

- Associates degree or equivalent experience is recommended.
- Comfortable working with the general public.
- Ability to be both a team player and to work independently for successful task completion.
- Organization skills, with attention to detail.
- Written and oral communication skills.
- Computer skills; must have competency with internet functions and Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is preferred.
- Knowledge of natural resource conservation and program coordination would be assets, but not required.
This position is a 25 hr/week, part-time, hourly position. Salary is $18/hour with paid holidays and vacation time.
